About RE:COVER
Like the tuning of an orchestra, the umbrellas will make use of "instruments" of the site and the wider Auckland area to compose a progressive morphing of sound and video as a prelude to the JACK IN THE BOX events. Clusters of umbrellas spread across the site will progressively link and communicate common themes in a multitude of everyday Auckland sounds which seem contradictory but in fact conform to an inherent common theme. Projections of the scenes associated with the sounds will be shown on the umbrellas, forcing the viewer to actively seek a new sensibility of vision: consciously looking up. As densities of timbre are layered, the senses will allow people to recognise their own experiences of a different place or time: realities existing parallel to their current environment. Progression through the umbrellas will also challenge common understanding of their experiences, confronting viewers with the odd harmony inherent in supposed opposites.
